The Tehachapi Community Orchestra  2010 - 2011 Schedule

Our esteemed Music Director, Dr. David Newby will be returning for another year of glorious music-making. The season will unfold as follows: Sunday, October 31, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at Country Oaks Baptist Church, 20915 Schout Road, Tehachapi featuring Cellist Helen Newby from Oberlin Conservatory in Cleveland, playing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major with the Orchestra. Other works to be performed are Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1” and Rossini’s “Italian in Algiers Overture”.

Friday, December 10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at Country Oaks Baptist Church, featuring selections from Handel’s “The Messiah”, with the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus and selected soloists, under the direction of Kathy Kelly. Come share the Christmas spirit with us and sing along on the choruses.

Sunday, February 27, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Country Oaks Baptist Church, featuring Pianists Deborah Martin (Professor of Music at Ithaca College in New York) and her brother Daniel Martin of Bakersfield, as soloists in Camille Saint Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals”; the narrator will be well-known actor Charles Napier. Children of all ages from two to ninety-nine will enjoy the sounds of all the different animals. The orchestra will perform Schumann’s “Hermann and Dorothea Overture”, Mascagni’s “Intermezzo”, and Mozart’s “Symphony No. 35” .

Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Country Oaks Baptist Church, featuring our Young Artist Winner in a concerto of his/her choosing, along with Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake”, as well as Faure’s “Pavane” and Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances” with the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus.

Monday, July 4, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at Coy Burnett Stadium, Tehachapi, which is our annual Pops Concert under the stars, featuring show tunes, movie music, marches, patriotic songs, and light classical music. Bring your picnic basket and enjoy the music, followed by the City of Tehachapi’s annual fireworks display - truly a small town America jubilation.

As most of you know, the Orchestra presents all of its concerts for free, so that EVERYONE, regardless of income, can enjoy live classical music. For more information, please visit our web site.
